PANDORA ETHICS REPORT
10
Gold and silver
In2014, all gold grains entering PANDORA’s crafting fa-
cilitieswere sourced from reputable refining companies
certified according to the RJC’s Code of Practices. Further-
more, all PANDORA gold suppliers are certified conflict
free according to the LondonBullionMarket Association
(LBMA) “GoodGoldDelivery List” or the RJCChain-of-Cus-
tody Standard for gold. 90% originated from recycling and
the remaining 10% frommining.
In 2014, 99%of the silver grain entering PANDORA’s
crafting processes originated from recycling and the remain-
ing 1% originated frommining. Further, all our silver grain
suppliers are certifiedmembers of the RJC.Thus PANDO-
RA can guarantee that our silver is conflict free aswell
as environmentally friendly compared tominedmaterial.
However, as PANDORA is committed to helping improve
ethics throughout the jewellery supply chain, wewill start
workingwith our suppliers in2015 todevelop a standard
for responsible silvermining.
Finally, PANDORA cooperateswith a very limited num-
ber of highly specialisedmanufacturers of semi-finished
gold and silver parts. All such partners deliver auditable
proof that the gold used in their products is sourced from
RJC/LBMA certified suppliers. In 2015wewill continue to
workwith our suppliers of specialised silver products to
findways to ensure that theywill also be able to guarantee
the ethical originof their silver.
Stones, gemstones and diamonds
Man-made stones, natural gemstones and diamonds are all
included in our jewellery, and have different characteristics
and advantages.Man-made stones are identical to their
natural gemstone counterparts in almost everyway,
including the same basic crystal structure and chemical
composition. They are fully traceable, affordable and can
be supplied in quantities suitable for large-scale jewellery
crafting. Finally, they exhibit fewer variations in color and
quality, which considerably reducesmaterial waste.
Whilewe havemade no decision to remove diamonds
and gemstones fromour assortment, man-made stones are
taking on an increasingly important role in our collections
anddiamonds didnot feature in any of the 2014 collections
except in the PANDORAClub charm. In the sourcing of
diamonds, whichwe continue to do to support customer
demand for existing collections, we only accept suppliers
who complywith the following statement, which is
includedon all PANDORA invoices:
“The diamonds herein invoicedhave beenpurchased
from legitimate sources not involved in the funding
of conflict and in conformancewithUnitedNations
resolutions. PANDORA hereby guarantees that these
diamonds are conflict free, basedonwritten guarantees
provided by the supplier of these diamonds.”
Further, since 2012we have requiredwritten guarantees
fromour diamond suppliers that the diamonds sent to
PANDORA donot originate from theMarange region in
Zimbabwe.
