suppliers of silver, gold anddiamonds inorder to establish
procedures thatwill further guarantee that thesematerials do
not originate from sources thatmight be connectedwith
human rights infringements.
SILVER AND GOLD
All silver andgold that enters our craftingprocesses at
PANDORAProductionThailandare sourced from interna-
tional refiningcompanies,which, likePANDORA, areactive
members of theResponsible JewelleryCouncil. In2012,
PANDORAdecided to implement procedures ensuring that
any silver or goldenteringPANDORA’s valuechainmust be
suppliedby responsible refiners acceptedon theLondonBul-
lionMarketAssociation’s (LBMA) list ofGoodDelivery refiners.
A limited number of specialisedmanufacturers – craft-
ing highly sophisticated silver and gold products – deliver
semi-finished parts to PANDORA ProductionThailand.
In 2012, all such specialised partners have certified to
PANDORA that the gold used in their products is sourced
from LBMA “good listed” suppliers. We are currently
implementing due diligence procedures to verify these
guarantees regarding gold andwewill in 2013 investigate
the feasibility of developing a similar system for highly
specialised silver products.
TheUnitedNations Environment Programme (UNEP)
estimates that 90 to100%of all silver andgoldused in jewel-
lery isbeing recycled.Noothermetalsor industries can
muster suchhigh recycling rates, andwe trulybelieve that this
fact shouldbe taken intoconsiderationwhenestimating the
actual environmental impact of thegenuine jewellery industry.
LBMA
The London BullionMarket Association requires that
all accreditedGoodDelivery listed refinersmust
initiate adequate human rights due diligence proce-
dures in their supply chain. LBMA also requires that
such procedures are verified by independent audi-
tors and in the case of gold the proceduresmust also
be in linewith theOECDGuidance for Responsible
Gold Sourcingwhich again is alignedwith theUnited
Nations Guiding Principles on Business andHuman
Rights, the authoritative point of reference for
PANDORA’s human rights policy.
